   Résumé
   Le scénario, subtil, joue sur un triptyque temporel en prenant comme point d'ancrage Virginia Woolf et son fameux roman Mrs Dalloway. Trois destins de femmes se trouvent mêlés dans ce parcours initiatique. Dans les années 20, on suit l'auteur dans les méandres de l'écriture du roman alors qu'elle est en proie à la folie. Plus de vingt ans plus tard, une femme au foyer dépressive, Laura Brown, va voir sa vie à jamais changée par la lecture de ce livre et enfin, dans le New-York contemporain, un homme lutte contre la maladie et subsiste grâce au soutien d'une femme, Clarissa Vaughn, sorte de représentation d'une Mrs Dalloway des temps modernes. Ce film, bordé d'émotion, bercé par la somptueuse musique de Philip Glass, navigue entre beauté et tragédie, où les destins tourmentés sont en quête de rédemption. La notion d'œuvre littéraire prend ici toute son ampleur.
   ■ L e roman homonyme de Michael Cunnigham a reçu le Prix Pulitzer en 1999, quant au roman Mrs Dalloway, il a été adapté en 1997 par Marleen Gorris ; Vanessa Redgrave y tenait le rôle principal.
